Msida is derived from Arabic “msayda” meaning “fisherman's dwelling”. A leading German knight of the order of St. John took residency in Msida in the late 18th century which was the beginning of a township. He funded a local washing place for all people and the vaulted building still stands today. These days it is used by local fishermen to house their boats and fishing nets. Offering relaxing and pleasant marina sidewalks and stunning views, Msida is also a popular venture point for cave chapels and St Joseph's elegant baroque church. Visitors can soak up the Mediterranean sun whilst sipping a dry white and eating local crustacean. Later on when they have exhausted their inquisitive nature they can visit one of the beaches nearby.
