Being an extension of Sliema, these days, St. Julians started out as a relaxed and quaint fishing port. Like Sliema, the town of St. Julians is now a major residential and tourist center. It is also the home of Malta's trendy nightlife with many bars, cafes, restaurants, clubs and casinos. Many of Malta's newest hotels can be found in St. Julians. Very attractive at night and loved by open air diners, the place is a buzz with tourists all year round. There is never a dull moment in St. Julians. The elegant Spinola Palace which was built in 1658 by an Italian knight, Giovanni Spinola, is the landmark historic building on the bay.
Property prices in St. Julian are perhaps a little more expensive than in more rural areas, but this is to be expected since living by the sea always has its own price tag. Despite this, property investors can find a relative bargain if they look close enough. Having the opportunity to live in a tranquil setting mixed with the action of the town is like having the best of both worlds.
